We are looking for curious, creative, and motivated group members who are excited by fundamental questions in ecology. Our lab combines mathematics, computation, and ecological theory to uncover general principles governing spatial organization across ecosystems. We welcome applicants from diverse quantitative backgrounds; prior experience in theoretical ecology is not required. What matters most is intellectual curiosity, a willingness to learn, and enthusiasm for tackling challenging problems.

Current Opportunities

I am currently recruiting for a fully funded PhD position. Applicants with interests in theoretical ecology, ecohydrology, biogeomorphology, applied mathematics, nonlinear dynamics, or other quantitative approaches to ecology are particularly encouraged to apply.

Graduate students can apply to work with me through several UC Davis graduate programs, including the Graduate Group in Ecology (GGE), Graduate Group in Applied Mathematics (GGAM), Population Biology Graduate Group (PBGG), and Hydrological Sciences Graduate Group (HSGG). I am happy to discuss which program would be the best fit before you apply.

I also welcome inquiries from prospective postdoctoral researchers, particularly those interested in pursuing independent fellowships. I would be happy to work with you on fellowship applications, including the CPB Postdoctoral Fellowship at UC Davis, the UC Davis Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (CPFP), or NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellowships.

Master’s Students

UC Davis master’s students interested in pursuing a research project in the lab are encouraged to contact me.

Outstanding B.S. and master’s students from other institutions may also have opportunities to join the lab as visiting researchers or summer interns, depending on funding and availability.
